Maria de Jesus Gomez, I am the woman behind MARA's Journey
At the age of fifty-two, I understand that one's life is the direct result of the decisions we make. Sometimes forced by circumstances, other times of our own free will, and we are not always prepared for the results. But, no matter how difficult times are, the formula to move forward is support.
In mutual aid there is the absolute key to overcome any situation. Stories of triumphant heroes and admirable leaders are often portrayed as one-person journeys, and too often these stories fail to share that these characters achieved success with the help of those around them. With great conviction I tell you that today I am here thanks to the support of all those angels who illuminated my path and supported my vision.
Although we ultimately go as far as we want in life, we can't forget all those who made a difference in our journey, big or small. As a young Mexican woman who immigrated to the United States in 1985 and lived in a gilded cage, undocumented for more than 15 years, I can assure you without a doubt that without the help of so many human beings, and especially kind, resilient, experienced women, and loving, I would not have turned my dreams into reality. Without the unwavering encouragement and support these people gave me, I would not be here today as a happy, traveling, adventurous US citizen mother, paying for my own house, and with a BA concentration in psychology and creative writing.
Having achieved some of my many dreams, I realized how incredibly important it is for me to give back and help women, who like me, could benefit from a helping hand. In MARA's Journey, I will share my life experiences, the obstacles that I turned into challenges and the tools that I acquired in my daily life.
The primary objective is to invite other women to do the same and thus provide support to anyone who needs a push, a bridge or a helping hand.
